PK Mont Letter Opener and Magnifying Glass

Within the Designer Series from Penn State Industries are magnifying glass and letter opening kits that match the Designer Series pen kits.  I made these with bocote handles to match the pen I made earlier.

Designer series fountain pen in Bocote

I just love the grain and color of bocote wood.  Contrasting this exotic wood with the 24kt gold in this Penn State Industries Designer fountain pen kit produced fantastic results.

This project holds a 3 inch diameter candle.  When I originally came up with the design several years ago, I made each piece out of 3/4 inch red oak.  This version has a carob base over two inches thick with carob top and legs that are one inch thick.
